A Singapore customer recently needed a reliable 1 cubic meter electro hydraulic orange peel grab for their scrap yard. They process end of life vehicles, demolition steel, and industrial offcuts. The material ranges from light sheet metal to heavy beams. Their existing grab was worn out and constantly needed welding repairs. After evaluating several suppliers, they chose GBM for our reputation in heavy duty grab design. We have now completed manufacturing and packaging, and the grab is ready for shipment. This is not a lightweight machine. It is built to take the abuse that scrap handling delivers every shift.

Independent closing force
The grab carries its own hydraulic power pack. It does not rely on the crane’s hoist motion to close the shells. The operator can hover the grab over a pile, close it with full hydraulic pressure, and lift a dense load. This is crucial for scrap, which often compacts and interlocks. A cable grab may skip across the surface; the hydraulic grab bites in and holds.
Multi shell design
The orange peel configuration with five shells (sometimes more) creates a more secure grip on irregular pieces. The shells wrap around the load, reducing the chance of sharp edges puncturing the shells. The overlap at the tips means smaller pieces do not fall out during the lift.

GBM’s engineering team did not simply take an existing grab design and repaint it. We tailored the shells specifically for the Singapore customer’s scrap mix.
Reinforced tips
The tips of the shells take the most punishment. They are the first point of contact with the pile, and they often scrape against concrete floors or other hard surfaces. GBM used thickened, hardened steel for the tip sections, with additional wear bars on the outer edges. This reinforcement means the tips resist bending, cracking, and premature wear. The customer’s maintenance team will not be welding patches on the grab every month.

Package That Protects
A wellbuilt grab is a substantial investment. It deserves to arrive at its destination in perfect condition. GBM takes packaging seriously, especially for overseas shipments.
Steady on the Pallet
We mounted the grab onto a heavy wooden pallet designed specifically for its shape and weight. The grab is strapped down with multiple ratchet straps that prevent any movement during transit. The skid itself is wide and low, making it stable during forklift handling and reducing the risk of tipping.
The outer crate
Over the entire assembly, we built a sturdy plywood crate. The crate is ventilated to prevent moisture buildup but solid enough to resist impacts from other cargo. It protects the hydraulic cylinders, the motor, and the painted surfaces from scratches, dents, and dust. The crate is clearly labelled with handling instructions, lifting points, and the customer’s destination address.
Attention to Detail
